throughout human history, since it was lernet it could happen, humans have been able to modify the genetics of different species. using selective breeding and even direct gene modification they have made different species more usefull to them. not stopping at animals they make fruits and vegitables bigger and juicier as well. in brave new world everyone, it seems, is genetically engineered, while todays society certinly frowns upon genetic engineering a future like the one pipicted in bnw is certainly possible.
